Fundamental Skills & Techniques for Climbing
The Fundamental Skills and Techniques course will provide you with a step-by-step approach to the physical and mental skills of climbing. Aimed at climbers who are just starting out or those who want to improve their general climbing technique, our seasoned instructors will help you find your balance in a whole new world of physical, technical and psychological challenges.
One of the most common questions beginners ask us is “How do I get stronger?” when in-fact the question should always be “How do I climb better?”.
This course will give you the best starting point for a solid foundation of fundamental skills and techniques for climbing. From here, strength simply comes with more climbing and frequency on the wall. Good technique is absolutely core to the sport of climbing and what we learn first, we do best!
You should expect to finish the course with all the tools needed to get-to and break through the most common plateaus for beginner and intermediate climbers; a solid grounding in fundamental techniques, climbing terminology, knowledge of grades and hold types and most importantly, a means of self-assessment so that you can analyse and adjust your own personal climbing.
The only requirement for Fundamental Skills and Techniques is that you have been to City Summit prior to the start of the course and taken one of our safety inductions. A safety induction is free with entry and given to any new climber to the centre when you first arrive. Belaying and climbing experience within City Summit will serve you well so come on in and grab a day-pass to get a feel for the process of climbing and belaying.
Next Course starts Wednesday 7th February 2018
Course Dates: Wednesdays from 7 – 9pm. Course runs each Wednesday for 3 consecutive weeks.
Cost: $170 per person for three, 2hr sessions with a maximum 6:1 Student to Instructor ratio.
What is involved in a typical class? The biggest hurdles for beginner climbers are as much ‘mental’ as they are physical and each session is specifically designed to tackle these hurdles in a structured and systematic manner.
A typical class will start with some light warm-up and stretching, introduction to course content and a recap of the previous weeks material. Each session will introduce the class to new ideas and concepts, allow exploration of concepts with exercises and tactics and then assessment of how these tactics have affected the climbers ability as a whole.
There will be opportunities within each session for the instructor to give personal feedback to help each climber solidify the techniques and concepts introduced in the course.
What happens if I miss a class? The Skills and Techniques course runs as three sessions on successive weeks in groups of 6 people. We ask that you try not to miss a class as this will mean you miss a pretty big chunk of the content and will affect your fellow course-mates as you try to catch up the following week. However, we know that life doesn’t always go to plan so in the event that you can’t make a session then City Summit will offer you a 1:1 Private Tuition with one of our awesome instructors to cover all the content you missed. We will even discount that session to $40 p/h. As the course and classes are small there is no discount for missed classes. A makeup session is charged on top of the regular course fees. 🙂
