Where are you located?
You can find City Summit at Unit 2/26 Harris Road, Malaga. Turn into Truganina Road from Alexander Drive and then turn right onto Harris Road. Please drive around the left bend and you will see us!
How much does it cost to climb?
All day entry for top roping is $15 for concession and $18 for adults. You can hire equipment individually or get entry with full equipment (harness, chalk bag and shoes) from $27 for concession and $30 for an adult. Children aged 6 and under can climb for $12 which includes all day entry and harness hire. If you are bouldering only, entry starts at $12 for concession and is $14 for adults.
I’m not climbing. Do I have to pay?
No, all spectators are free. If you are tagging along with friends or a parent or guardian bringing children to climb, you can watch from the mezzanine floor that looks out across the centre. Upstairs also has a café with food and refreshments or you can purchase something from the vending machine. You can also enjoy Foxtel streamed throughout the gym. Kids under 12 will need an adult to belay and while you won’t need to pay for entry you will need to hire a harness for $7.
Do you hire equipment?
Yes everything that you need to climb can be hired from the Pro Shop. You can either pay for anything you need individually or combine the complete kit of shoes, chalk bag and harness. For prices please refer to our price list.
What gear do you sell in the Pro Shop?
Our ProShop stocks equipment for both indoor and outdoor climbing, including; climbing shoes, harnesses, chalk bags, chalk, quickdraws, karabiners, climbing ropes and webbing, trad gear, bouldering mats, climbing bags, training equipments, hydration bottles and more. We stock all the best brands; La Sportiva, Scarpa, Edelrid, Black Diamond, DMM, Metolius and Camelbak. Please ask one of our friendly staff for recommendations and help with fitting any gear.
How do I become a City Summit Member?
On your second visit you are entitled to become a Summit Club Member. This is a free membership that accrues points for any purchases in the centre including the café, Pro Shop, entry, gear hire and prepaid memberships. A prepaid gym Membership is available for purchase in 1, 3, 6 and 12 month blocks or as a fortnightly direct debit. This entitles you to unlimited access to the centre during business hours for the duration of the time period purchased. If you can’t commit to a gym membership then you can buy a visit pass that can be used over any period of time.
How do I earn/redeem members rewards points?
Points are accrued on any purchase made in the centre. For every dollar you spend you will receive 1 rewards point. Once you reach a certain level of point accumulation, points can be redeemed for discounts on entry to the gym, paid memberships (excluding direct debit), purchases in the Pro Shop and the café.
I have never climbed before. Are beginners welcome?
A lot of our climbers are beginners. On entry to the centre you will be taken through an induction with one of our instructors. They will spend the time necessary with you to ensure you learn the basic skills and gain the confidence to continue unsupervised. There are always instructors available on the floor should you require any help or if you have any questions. We also offer a individual tuition. For first time visitors we have prepared some information to make your first visit to the centre as easy as possible. Click for details.
What courses do you offer?
For first time climbers, you will be taken through an Induction with one of our instructors who will spend the time with you to ensure you learn the basic skills and gain the confidence to continue unsupervised. For climbers who want to take it to the next level and are climbing grades 18+, City Summit offers a free Lead Course. Kids Courses are offered for either 5 or 10 weeks in duration and also 3 day courses during school holidays.
How can I find a climbing partner?
There are always lots of people of varying abilities looking for someone to climb with. We encourage people to post in our facebook group forum and we now also have a blackboard in the centre where you can write your details. Tuesday and Thursday nights are our busiest so it is possible that you will find someone to climb with if you just drop in.
Can I climb by myself?
Yes you can! The bouldering wall stand 5.5 meters high and both sides are 8 meters in width. Large thick safety matts line the floor. We can also help you to find a climbing partner. Our Facebook page has a forum for you to meet up with people or if you head down on our social night (Tuesdays) we can help to introduce you to someone.
What grade climbs do you offer experienced climbers?
City Summit’s climbing gym was built by climbers, for climbers. Our climbing walls are graded from 8 to 36 so you will be sure to find a challenge. We also feature a bridge across a section of the roof that links to a wall providing you with a 22 meter long climb. If you are serious about a challenge, try the Dreamcatcher, a grade 35 climb based on Cacodemon Boulder in Squamish, BC.
What facilities does City Summit have?
On entry you will find the Pro Shop that is stocked with all the equipment you may need to get serious about your climbing. Here you can also hire any gear for use in the centre. Lockers are available and shower facilities on the ground floor. Head upstairs to the Summit Lounge where you can enjoy a fresh and healthy range of food and juices as well as a few treats. You can enjoy your time in the café on the mezzanine which looks out over the climbing gym.
Is rock climbing safe?
Indoor rock climbing does not make the list of adrenaline sports and with all the best practices in place it is considered a low injury risk and carries a good safety profile. City Summit enforces safe practices within the climbing gym to minimise risk and injury. Professional climbers however will be exposed to more general injuries associated with professional sports.
What are the benefits of rock climbing?
Rock climbing provides a complete body workout combining both cardio and muscular exercise. Regular climbing will help to lose weight, increase muscle tone and body flexibility as well as improving your cardiovascular system. It is also a great way to met new people and build friendships.
Are children welcome in the centre?
Yes. Children can start climbing from the age of 5 and full instruction is provided for parents to safely belay their child. For children under 5 or those who prefer to watch, they can enjoy the Summit Lounge café upstairs where the mezzanine area provides a great view of the climbing gym.
What is the minimum age for children to climb?
Children from the age of 5 are permitted to climb with parent or guardian approval. A full induction is provided by one of our instructors to teach correct techniques and ensure confidence with climbing. A parent or responsible teenager will need to belay for the child and will need to supervise them in the centre at all times. Further tuition is available through our Kids Club or School Holiday 3Day Climbing Course.
Do you have a functions area?
Upstairs adjacent to the café you will find our two functions areas. These can be booked for corporate or private functions, including children’s birthday parties. We offer full catering facilities and discounts for climbing entry and harness hire.
How do I make a group booking?
If you would like to book in a group of 10 or more people then please call us on 9248 7035 or fill in the form found on our bookings page. We have facilities to cater for corporate groups, school groups, kids birthday parties and private functions.
